Design Challenges

Problem Statement
My group and I investigated the creation of a social community platform. We decided to address the problems facing the Xtreme sports community largely because several members of our design team have engaged in Xtreme Sports. What we saw was a poor attempt at the existing Facebook communication strategy, which we judged to be un-targeted and unsuccessful. We discovered that organizing travel to attend events was a time-consuming process, and consumers encountered a lack of community support and challenges accessing pertinent information.
Our goal was to create a more user-friendly and efficient platform to enhance the user experience.

Pain Points

  • Lack of community support
  • The current method of communicating (Facebook), is not targeted enough
  • Planning trips to participate can be difficult and time consuming

My Roles
For the Dragonz Eye project, I was collaboratively responsible for the user experience discovery, definition, design, development, and delivery. To ensure the project's success, our team collaborated closely and distributed responsibilities among ourselves.

Deliverables
I worked on a variety of deliverables during the project, including storyboards, empathy maps, and user personas. With the use of these tools, we were able to develop a user-centered design and better understand the demands and pain points of our users.

Tools
We used a variety of design tools, including Miro, Figma, Photoshop, Acrobat, Google Sheets, MS Word, and Zoom, to produce a user-centered design. These tools helped us collaborate more efficiently and produce an outstanding design that satisfied the needs of our users.

Discover
As a seasoned user experience designer, I naturally recognize the value of doing in-depth research during the discovery phase. Together with my team, I interviewed and surveyed Xtreme Sports competitors including skydivers, surfers, BMX racers, and drivers of vintage Formula race cars. Our investigation uncovered significant challenges the athletes were dealing with, such as a lack of communication routes and a sense of community. We gained insights that will guide our design choices by giving user demands top priority.

Define
We closely collaborated to optimize the site navigation by reducing the amount of links, improving the layout, and emphasizing important links visually. Our design placed a high priority on providing customers with a cutting-edge, intuitive user experience and a robust, user-friendly interface that complied with Section 508 requirements and was visually pleasing.

User Statements From Interview
"i know of these big skydiving parties and events where people get up and jump all day and hang out all night and whatnot. There's like hundreds of them across the world, and we all have different experiences. If there is an app that can connect all this information from all these people; now that would be cool!" — Tony, 45

Design
To make a functional and exciting interface, we experimented with several design aspects, such as vivid neon-like colors. We quickly concluded, though, that using too many of these styles would be too distracting for our users. To identify the best design solution that represents the Xtreme Sports mindset and puts user experience and usability first, we did numerous rounds of user testing. Our winning design had an accessible interface, with a dark gray background, mostly white lettering, and highlights in bright green and red. We also strengthened our brand identity by changing the app's name from"Dragon Tail" to the edgier "Dragonz Eye."

Deliver

It gives me great pleasure to present the completed output of the Dragonz Eye project to you. Our group was able to successfully develop an app that satisfies the requirements of the Xtreme Sports community by providing a venue for debate, the creation of a feeling of community, and the scheduling of events in response to those requirements. We then requested user feedback, exhibited our program to other design teams, and iterated the design even further. A successful end result, which demonstrates the importance of teamwork and a commitment to high standards, was achieved through a process of design that concentrated on the needs of the end user.
